FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis coach Jennifer Gabou has announced her team’s 2009-10 schedule.
"With three seniors and three freshmen we will have a good mix of experience and youth,” said Gabou. “I am looking forward to the way our team competes this season."
The Eagles will be playing in three fall tournaments, beginning with the FGCU Fall Classic September 25-28. Two weeks later the Eagles will compete in the UNF Tournament (Oct. 9-11) before concluding their fall season at Georgia Tech to participate in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, October 23-26.
FGCU will kick off the spring season by hosting the Eagle Invitational, January 16-18. Following that the Eagles will have 21 matches, including 14 at home. The regular season starts with a January 22 home match-up against Troy. FGCU’s non-conference home matches include Florida Atlantic, Providence, Boston College, Furman, Morehead State, Southern, and Cincinnati. The Eagles will also be making a trip to Tampa, Fla. to battle in-state foe USF.
The Atlantic Sun conference portion of the schedule begins February 14, when the Eagles take on the Hatters of Stetson. The other conference opponents that will visit Fort Myers include UNF, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, ETSU, and Mercer. FGCU’s first conference road match will be at Lipscomb on March 19. The Eagles will also face Belmont, Campbell, and USC Upstate on the road.
