FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Eagles women’s tennis team completed the second annual Eagle SOAR on Saturday, September 12th. The Eagle SOAR is a super-sprint triathlon consisting of a 6.25 mile bike, 1.5 mile run, and 0.25 mile swim. The theme of this event was “8 Miles of Heart.”

For the bike portion of the event, TREK provided bicycles for the athletes. The triathlon was an inter-squad competition for which the team was split into two teams: Team Blue and Team Green. For the second straight season, Team Green defeated Team Blue.

After the event head coach Jennifer Gabou said, “we do the triathlon to get the girls to expand their horizons as athletes. They realize after they complete the race that if they could do that, they can do almost anything on the court." Freshmen Farah Leclercq said "It was really fun and we got to know each other a lot better. I can't wait to do it again next year."

The FGCU Women's Tennis team opens up the fall portion of the 2009-10 season this weekend as they host the FGCU Fall Classic at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Check www.fgcuathletics.com for more details regarding the tournament later this week.
