JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The FGCU women's tennis team wrapped up play in the UNF Hampton Inn 9A & Baymeadows Fall Tennis Invitational tournament on Sunday. Farah Leclercq reached the semifinals of her back draw and the doubles pair of Villemond and Leclercq advanced to the round of 16 in their draw.
In the A Draw Villemond had wins over Bethune Cookman’s Katarina Szaboova while Farah Leclercq beat out Georgia Southern’s Kristi Kegerreis in the back draw. In the B Draw Iris Rendon lost to UNF’s Sara Lodono in a tough three set match 6-7 (6), 6-0, 7-5 while in the C Draw Melissa narzissenfeld beat Bethune’s Andrea Paez before falling to Kim Webb 6-1, 6-0 from Coastal Carolina.
In doubles action the tandem of Villemond/Leclercq advanced to the round of 16 with a win over Bethune’s Lopez/Peterson before falling to the number 1 seed UNF team Berkenbrok/Castro 8-6.
Head coach Jennifer Gabou spoke about her team's performance after the tournament: “This weekend really showed the girls that they can win matches if they do the right things. All of the girls posted wins and there were a few hard fought three set matches. Our team is showing a lot of promise for the spring."
