FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU’s Jessica Sweeting finished the week with a perfect 3-0 singles record and a 2-1 doubles mark. For her performance, Sweeting claimed the first Player of the Week award of her career, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Against Troy on Friday, the junior from Freeport, Bahamas won at No. 3 singles against Leonie Guijt, 6-0, 6-4, and teamed with Katharine Evans to win 9-7 against Guijt/Grymel at No. 1 doubles. At UCF on Saturday, Sweeting defeated Jenna Doerfler at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4. The mental health counseling major also won at No. 2 singles against Shareen Peterson-Paul, 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 2 doubles with Evans against Peterson-Paul/Lopez, 8-4 at Bethune-Cookman on Sunday.
Next up for the Eagles is a home contest against Florida Atlantic on Friday, February 5. The match is set for a 2:30 pm start at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
