LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Competing in day two at the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Classic, the FGCU women’s tennis team had four participants compete in the tournament’s back draw. Senior Iris Rendon (San Antonio, Texas/Tyler Junior College) defeated two Mississippi State competitors in her pair of singles matches on Saturday.
Leading the Eagles through afternoon, Rendon earned the victory in her first match against the Bulldogs’ Vivian Pietraroai, 6-3, 6-1. Rendon would later take down Pietraroai’s teammate Elizabeth Hall, 6-0, 6-1 in her final contest of the afternoon.
Sophomore Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) fell to Jordan Zachary (Miss. St.) 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, while classmate Melissa Narzissenfeld (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Names) went down to Oklahoma State’s Nataliya Shatrovskaya, 2-6, 6-0, 10-4. Rounding out the matches on the day, freshman Gyanna Mandic (Oshowa, Canada/Edison Academies) was turned away by Kanyapat Narattana (Ok. St.), 6-2, 6-2.
The Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Classic will conclude on Sunday with the women’s singles finals, in addition to more back draw action. Rendon will prepare for her morning contest as play resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
