FORT MYERS, Fla. – With the 2011 spring season just around the corner, the FGCU women’s tennis added some depth to its roster with the signing of Bettina Botha of Cape Town, South Africa.
“We are all very excited that Bettina is joining our team this January,” said third-year head coach Jennifer Gabou. “She is a talented young woman both in the classroom and off of the court and she will certainly contribute a lot to our team this season, both in singles and doubles.”
Coming to the team in January as an incoming freshman, Botha joins the Blue and Green after graduating from De Kuilen High School in Cape Town, South Africa. A winner of numerous Grand Prix events, the newcomer holds an impressive resume with rankings as high as No. 3 in South Africa and No. 9 in the nation for doubles. Earning many leadership honors off court, Botha is active in the Council of Learners and debating, winning the prestigious “jip-dink-of-sink” competition.
As they welcome Bettina to Fort Myers, the FGCU women’s tennis team continues to prepare for the Hilton Garden Eagle Invitational scheduled for January 15-17 at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
