FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s tennis will return to Atlantic Sun Conference action with a pair of road contests over the weekend. The Eagles head to Kennesaw State on Friday at 11 a.m. and follow with a dual match at Mercer on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
In their last outing, the Eagles fell in a doubles-less dual meeting with Georgia Southern, 5-1, in a rain-shortened contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue and Green’s record moved to 4-4 (1-2 A-Sun) on the year with the loss.
Six student-athletes will be competing in the pair of duals, including senior Iris Rendon (San Antonio, Texas/Tyler Junior College), junior Jen Evans (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS), sophomores Bibiana Almeida (Porto, Portugal/Schiller International School) and Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), as well as, freshmen Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/De Kuilen HS) and Gyanna Mandic (Oshowa, Canada/Edison Academies).
The Owls are 12-2 (2-0 A-Sun) overall and have earned victories in each of their two opening A-Sun matches, defeating Belmont (March 4) and Lipscomb (March 5), 6-1 and 7-0, respectively.
Mercer has recorded a 2-6 (0-2 A-Sun) mark heading into its Friday dual with Stetson. Dropping their two opening A-Sun contests, the Bears fell to Lipscomb (March 4) and followed with a loss to Belmont (March 5), both by scores of 4-3.
