FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the final matches of the 2011 spring campaign, the FGCU women’s tennis team will head to Jacksonville, Fla. for a pair of dual meetings with Jacksonville and UNF over the weekend. The Eagles take on the Dolphins on Friday at 2 p.m. and follow with the Ospreys on Saturday at 10 a.m.
FGCU holds a 9-7 record that includes a 4-4 mark in A-Sun play, and is coming off a 6-1 loss to No. 62 FIU on Wednesday in Miami, Fla.
Competing in the contests for the Blue and Green will be senior Iris Rendon (San Antonio, Texas/Tyler Junior College), junior Jen Evans (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS), sophomores Bibiana Almeida (Porto, Portugal/Schiller International School) and Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), as well as, freshmen Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/De Kuilen HS) and Gyanna Mandic (Oshowa, Canada/Edison Academies).
Still battling for a spot in the Atlantic Sun Championship, Jacksonville sports a 13-4 (4-3 A-Sun) record this spring and is riding a three-match winning streak that features A-Sun wins over Mercer (6-1), Belmont (4-3) and Lipscomb (6-1).
UNF has recorded an 11-3 (6-1 A-Sun) mark this season. Winners of four straight matches, the Ospreys head into their Friday contest with Stetson after defeating Mercer (6-1), Kennesaw State (5-2), Lipscomb (5-0) and Belmont (6-1).
