FORT MYERS, Fla. –The FGCU women’s tennis team earned two doubles victories on the final day of the FGCU Eagle Invitational on Monday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
In doubles, freshman Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) and senior Jen Evans (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) earned an 8-3 win against FAU’s Mrazkova and Phillips.
Junior Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) and sophomore Gyanna Mandic (Oshowa, Canada/Edison Academies) picked up a win against Tomaszewicz and Briggs from FAU.
In singles, Bechtel played a tough match against Iowa State’s Simona Cacciuttolo, falling 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. Bechtel held leads in both sets taking a 6-5 lead in the first, before losing in the tiebreaker 7-3. In the second set, Bechtel was down 0-3, before rallying to take a 4-3 lead but came up just short 6-4.
The Green and Blue return to the court on Feb. 4 against in-state rival Florida Atlantic at the FGCU Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
