Women’s Tennis Ready for Showdown Against UCF this Weekend

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s tennis team is set to compete against in-state foe UCF on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

The Green and Blue have a 1-1 record after defeating Bethune-Cookman, 6-1, in their previous match on Feb. 5 at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Recently earning her first career Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award, senior Jen Evans (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) leads FGCU following a perfect 2-0 singles and 2-0 doubles mark to open to the season.

Sophomore Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/DeKuilen HS) holds a 2-0 record at No. 5 singles with wins over Bethune-Cookman and FAU. Botha also owns a 2-0 doubles mark with freshman partner Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS).

UCF enters the match with a 2-5 overall dual record, coming off a 6-1 win over East Carolina and a 4-3 loss to Tulane in its last two matches. The Knights are led by Genevieve Lorbergs, who has a 3-3 record at No. 1 singles. In the previous meeting in 2010, the Eagles fell 5-2 to UCF.

FGCU hits the road for its next match against in-state foe USF on Sunday Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. in Tampa, Fla. Results from the match will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com at the conclusion of the competition.
