MACON, Ga. – After going 3-0 against Lipscomb, Northern Kentucky and Wisconsin Green Bay, Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was named the A-Sun women’s tennis Player of the Week for the first time of her career, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Player of the Week honor for Means makes the sophomore the fourth to record the honor in the history of the FGCU women’s tennis program. As the number one singles player on the FGCU women’s tennis team, Means has helped the Green and Blue to an 8-3 (2-0 A-Sun) record thus far in the 2013 dual match season.

Means won all three singles matches at the No. 1 spot against the Bison, Norse and Phoenix over the past week with all matches having taken place at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Her strong play at the first spot in the singles lineup helped lead the Eagles to a 3-0 week overall and a 2-0 start to A-Sun play.

During a week in which FGCU exerted its force upon weaker opponents, Means only lost a total of four games in three singles matches as she posted scores of 6-2, 6-0 vs. Lipscomb, 6-0, 6-0 vs. Northern Kentucky and 6-1, 6-1.

Also finding success on the doubles courts, Means went 3-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot for FGCU over the past week with the Eagles having won the doubles point in all three of the matches.

The Green and Blue will hit the road to face Mercer on Friday, March 22 and Kennesaw State on Saturday March 23, with both matches set to begin at 10 a.m. on their respective days.

Following the match, results and a recap from the dual match action will be available at
