MACON, Ga. – After compiling a 5-0 record in the first weekend of the 2014 regular season, junior Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) picked up FGCU’s fifth Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
Receiving the first weekly honor of the 2014 season, Means earned the title as a result of her perfect 5-0 record after opening the season with a No. 1 singles win over Iowa State and collecting the Flight A singles title at the FGCU Spring Invitational.
The Wesley Chapel native failed to drop a set in each of her five matches, proving to be the tournament’s top contender. In Friday’s dual match against the Cyclones, Means downed Ksenia Pronina 6-4, 7-5. In the round of 16 at the FGCU Spring Invite she defeated Northwestern State’s Natalya Krutova 6-2, 6-2, Arkansas State’s Biljana Milosevska 6-3, 6-2 in the Quarterfinals, Northwestern State’s Polina Konop 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals and faced Pronina again in the finals, winning in dominant fashion, 6-1, 6-0.
Means picked up her first A-Sun weekly honor on Mar. 20, 2013, after winning three singles matches at the No. 1 spot against Lipscomb, Northern Kentucky and Wisconsin Green Bay.
